Engaging Our Communities

Engaging Our Communities — Investing in Capabilities, Capacity and Future Talent \

ICL’s social engagement strategy is built on collaboration, meaningful partnerships, and shared values that shape and establish networks of social good within the communities we operate. By investing in entrepreneurship, innovation, excellence, and utilizing our products, resources, and expertise we build sustainable lasting partnerships, thus establishing networks that will be a driving force of social good.

To achieve these goals our strategy is focused on four main pillars:

  • Education

  • Advancing Food Security
  • Volunteering

4.b
By 2020, substantially expand globally the number of scholarships available to developing countries, in particular least developed countries, small island developing States and African countries, for enrolment in higher education, including vocational training and information and communications technology, technical, engineering and scientific programmes, in developed countries and other developing countries

ICL’s primary approach in its sustainable social engagement policy is to make an impact through investing in education, thus enabling a sustainable social change and economic growth. Education is the main pillar of our STEM education programs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) established on targeted populations by promoting, academic excellence, innovation, and leadership across all education levels, institutions, and age groups.

Alongside local partners, we develop programs designed to support and advance specific populations. These programs promote scientific curiosity and scientific education, advance excellence by supporting outstanding students, make professional training accessible to target  populations, and train and support innovative thinking and leadership.

Advancing Food Security

2.1
By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round
2.2
By 2030, end all forms of malnutrition, including achieving, by 2025, the internationally agreed targets on stunting and wasting in children under 5 years of age, and address the nutritional needs of adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women and older persons

ICL strives to promote food security (SDG no.2) within the communities in which we operate. We do this by utilizing our resources, products, and expertise to help and support the world’s battle against hunger.

We are dedicated to improving food security through a broad array of AgTech solutions, fertilizers, alternative proteins, and other innovative products that help improve and increase agricultural yields and quality, maintain longer shelf life, and reduce food waste.

ICL collaborate with farmers in India, Kenya, Tanzania and other developing countries through agricultural tutoring and helping in developing methods to engage a modern sustainable agriculture, including plant nutrition and proper fertilization. This enables farmers to use the soil more effectively, increase their yields, and reduce their environmental footprint.

In order to provide food security within our communities, we support local farmers and food banks, expanding the use of community gardens and urban agriculture, and organizing food donations.

Employee Volunteering

ICL is encouraging its employees to continually make a positive impact among their local communities, to support volunteering and to offer new opportunities for collaboration. We promote and support volunteerism that increase sustainable development in the local communities.

Our employees foster their connection with local communities, by contributing their time and effort– mentoring for youth and students, financial and business mentoring for small businesses, financial mentoring for families, after school activities with children, support the elderly, volunteer at food banks, volunteer at health institutions and much more towards making a meaningful impact with the communities in which they live.

WeCare@ICL Volunteering App Launch

ICL’s monetary donations in 2021 amounted to approximately $8 million (including the amount invested in the Visitor Center). In addition, during 2021, ICL contributed, at the Company’s expense, about 12,755 hours of volunteer work of its employees. This amount does not include 12,680 hours of volunteer work after working hours, which was encouraged, organized, and logistically facilitated by ICL.

In 2021, ICL launched new matching programs for employee donations and volunteering, investing $95,000 in Brazil, the US, Germany and the Netherlands. Following the success of this initiative, ICL will implement it in additional countries during 2022.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Week Volunteering Activities

As part of ICL’s ESG Week, ICL encourage its employees to volunteer in numerous community initiatives. During 2021, due to COVID restrictions we encountered challenges to execute volunteering activities, but non the less we witnessed an impressive participation of volunteering, 3,288 volunteers from 20 countries invested 10,433 hours, in community activities, such as park and beach clean-ups, supporting elderly populations and people with disabilities, renovating and refurbishing community buildings and parks, assisting at animal shelters, helping at local food banks and many others.

This event was successful both in terms of participation and in the dramatic increase in volunteer contributions throughout the year that followed. We had an increase in the global workforce participating in volunteering activities, creating a lasting cultural shift throughout our organization.
